My piece “The Acrobat” has been selected to appear in the Morris Museum’s juried exhibition “A Cache of Kinetic Art: Curious Characters” in Morristown, New Jersey. The Morris Museum is home to the Murtogh D. Guinness Collection, one of the world’s most significant collections of automata. From an article on the show :
January 1, 2018 – “The Morris Museum is excited to announce a new four-year exhibition series entitled A Cache of Kinetic Art. The first themed installment, Curious Characters (Friday, March 16 – June 20, 2018), will highlight the creative energy and vitality of kineticism, by featuring artistic interpretations by both emerging and established artists worldwide, who fuse innovative design with imaginative use of traditional and contemporary media.
A Cache of Kinetic Art is a juried show, developed and curated by Michele Marinelli, Curator, and Jere Ryder, Conservator, of the Murtogh D. Guinness Collection. Curious Characters specifically focuses on the expression of distinctive figural forms, from traditional to abstract. Each of the esteemed jurists brought their distinct perspectives to judging this exhibition; the jurists are Lizbeth Krupp of Boston, a patron of the arts, collector, and founder of Krupp Family Foundation, Richard Garriott of New York, a video game developer, entrepreneur, collector and astronaut, and Dawn Delikat of New York, Associate Executive Director at Pen & Brush gallery. The criteria for judgment comprise a variety of different factors including creativity, originality, theme interpretation, craftsmanship, mastery of medium and visual impact.
Visitors are encouraged to actively participate in bestowing the final prize, the People’s Choice Award. Voting by the visiting public will begin on Friday, March 16, and concludes Saturday, May 19. “This ground-breaking exhibit will be one of the most intense, well-rounded gatherings of kinetic artworks under one roof that anyone has ever experienced. Something not to miss, if you appreciate art that moves,” Jere Ryder enthusiastically states.”

New Forms Matter
My automata will be featured in the upcoming Sculptors’ Society of BC show “New Forms Matter” from April 28 – June 3, 2017. In this show, traditional themes derived from nature and portraiture cross-pollinate with our modern understanding of molecular structure and engineering. Please join me on Thursday, April 27 for the opening reception at CityScape Community Art Space, 335 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver from 7pm – 9pm.
